So this is my latest project. I'm hoping to finish it for Christmas and give it to my roommate. She's moving up somewhere north, MD or NH area, when we graduate in May from UF and she'll need a warm, thick blanket.

Here is the first part of it. It'll be about 4ft wide and 6ft longish. A bunch of these stripes will be the majority of it and when I've finished the whole thing and sewn all the strips together, I'll frame it in the lighter blue yarn with a standard rib stitch to complete the borders. Each of these strips is done in a braided cable pattern, about 4-5 inches wide and a little under 4ft long.

Don't worry all, she isn't on livejournal!!

Thanks it is snuggly. I'm almost sad to give it away LOL, but I know she will LOVE it!!

It's nice because I can do the strips in front of her without her knowing what it is. I would try to not do it in front of her at all, but our schedules are weird and the only time I get to spend with her is the same time I have to knit.

That's awesome. She's gonna flip when she sees the finished product. :-)

May I ask what braided cable pattern did you use?

I am trying to decide what type of patterns would work for an upcoming baby blanket I am going to make. I would like to make it in various strips.

Thanks.
